English Summary
NPHF
The Netherlands Public Health Federation (NPHF) is an alliance of professional associations and institutes in the field of public health. On 1 January 2010 the NPHF had 47 members, all of which see it as their task to promote and protect health. De NPHF was formed in August 2000 with the objective of strengthening public health in the Netherlands and achieves this goal by combining resources and exchanging expertise and experience. With a membership that is increasing every year, the NPHF is now recognized as the voice that speaks on behalf of the public health within The Netherlands.
The Federation's activities focus on underlining the importance of good public health in the Netherlands, because growth in healthy life expectancy is stagnating and socio-economic differences in health are regrettably wide. Since public health is an intersectoral issue requiring intersectoral policy, the NPHF not only concentrates on influencing policies of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, but also on the policies of other ministries as well as the European Union and local governments. The NPHF works with strategic policy agenda's that are renewed every year.
Organization
The NPHF is a federation of almost 50 associations and institutes. The member organizations and institutes collectively form the Federation Council (NPHF members).
The Federation Council meets twice annually and elects the Board, which is responsible for day-to-day business.
The support staff for the Federation Council and the Board is based in the NIVEL building.
The NPHF is a member of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA) and the American Public Health Association (APHA).
NPHF activities
The Netherlands Public Health Federation (NPHF) is a membership organization. On behalf of its members and on their instructions, the NPHF represents the interests of public health to the municipalities, central government and its institutions, to social organizations and to the European Union. The NPHF wants to play an agenda-setting role in this process, identifying and initiating where necessary.
The NPHF acts as a broker between its members, but also for the members with respect to other organizations.
The organization of the NPHF includes the following working groups:
- Promoting integrated policy
- Linking prevention to care and cure
- Promoting adequate professional care in the future
- Knowledge management
- Development of strategic communication for public health
- European public health policy
- European Policy
In organizing the debate and exchange between its members and the parties that are active in the field of public health, the NPHF works closely with affiliated organizations like the Public Health Forum and the Nederlands Congres Volksgezondheid (the Netherlands Public Health Conference).
The NPHF is the local organiser of the 3rd European Public Health Conference in the RAI in Amsterdam, November 2010 in partnership with ZonMw, RIVM and NIVEL.
